Exo Terra® Forest Bark is a 100% natural, biodegradable reptile substrate made from sustainable wood bark. Forest Bark is an ideal decorative substrate for moisture-loving reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates in tropical and forest environments. Its hygroscopic properties regulate the humidity of the terrarium in a natural way through its absorption and slow release. The unique size and shape of the natural bark particles encourages natural digging and burrowing behaviors, and prevents crickets from hiding in the substrate. Fir bark has been treated to soften bark chips and remove dust, and is heat-treated to reduce bacterial contamination.
Substrates in natural terrariums have many functions and are not just for decoration. They play a very important role in defining the microclimate of the terrarium . Burrowing and burrowing reptiles have different needs than tree-dwelling species, as do desert animals prefer another type of substrate.
