The Exo Terra Canopy Cave creates a multi-tiered habitat. Arboreal reptiles and amphibians are often reluctant to use ground-level caves for hiding or nesting. A proper hiding area is an essential feature of a natural terrarium. Without a safe place to hide and sleep, reptiles and amphibians will easily develop stress that will affect their activity and appetite. Stressed reptiles will be able to retreat to this high and safe hiding place, giving them a chance to regain their strength. If filled with Exo Terra Forest Moss, the Canopy Cave will become a humid shelter suitable for nesting arboreal reptiles and amphibians to lay their eggs. A convenient clamp system allows you to remove the shelter and check on your animals or their eggs without compromising their nesting behaviour. A lid is included to cover the peephole and darken the interior of the cave to provide more privacy for the animal to prevent stress. The peephole allows you to observe your animals or eggs without disturbing them, just push the top cover 1/3 apart, take a look, and put the peephole cover back to its original position.
